Nonviolent communication and conflict Management
Nonviolent
communication and conflict Management
At
workplace we celebrate different activities and occasions for children and staff
throughout the year. Three years ago, a new teacher joins our school. She doesn’t
want to participate in these activities at all. Every time she has an excuse
which is these activities are not required for the job. So when we have a
meeting she always would bring up this issue that she is not part of these activities
which excludes herself from the group by not sitting with us at lunchtime, not
chatting with anyone. This behavior
bothers the other teachers who are working at this site for more than twenty
years and who get used to doing a lot of fun activities and celebration. Those
teachers love to make the work environment motivated and feel like home. I took
the initiative to talk to the new teacher to explain the benefits of doing
these activities for the children and their families to feel welcome and reach
the comfortable zone between school and families. She still did not agree to do
it. Also, I add that how these type of gathering help us as stuff to get close
and know each other more which will cause us to have a productive working day. On
the other hand, these children and families will benefit from it because some families
cannot offer to do this type of celebration based on their income.
I practice
reciprocal when I take the initiative to talk to her one on one to show her the benefits
that we get as a staff, children and their families as well. To explain to a person
who is stubborn and spend time to explain ideas requires compassion. Also, by explaining
and going in details about the issue, of which I respected her point of view by
talking to other teachers to not make it a big deal if she doesn’t want to be involved
in any of the activities. Furthermore by taking responsibility to talk to my colleagues
to find some solutions by enjoying the activities while still keeping the
professional attitude during work.
Strategy
I used when I built trust and managed the relationship by explaining the
teachers’ point of view and the new teachers as well to keep the positive work
relationship. Work is a second home which needs to feel peace to be able to do more
and to achieve more. By finding easy solutions that keep my work colleagues’
relationship positive needed just some effort to listen and respect others’
point of view. Now the new teacher participates in some of these activities and
celebrations.
