Jobs/Roles in the ECE community: National/Federal Level

Throughout my searching for different early childhood national/federal organizations and agencies that appeal to my professional a passion I found these:

1- Zero to Three

Their Mission and Vision
“Our mission is to ensure that all babies and toddlers have a strong start in life. At ZERO TO THREE, we envision a society that has the knowledge and will to support all infants and toddlers in reaching their full potential.”

I chose this organization that began in 1977 based on their excellent resources, and they are providing collaborative work and effort to parents, families, and professionals. They believe that how they do their work is as important as what they do.
“By embracing our values, every member of the ZERO TO THREE community contributes to a healthy and positive culture, a more successful organization, and better outcomes for infants, toddlers, and their families.” Also, they value

2- National Child Care Association

“The National Child Care Association (NCCA) has been a trusted, nonpartisan voice for licensed providers of quality early childhood care and education programs since 1987. It was formed to be an influential voice at state and national legislative tables.  The NCCA began as a federation of state associations that appointed state leaders to serve as the Board of Directors at the national level. In recent years, membership has been extended to individuals and centers in order to raise a larger and more unified voice for the licensed early childhood education community.” (NCCA)

NCCA Mission Statement:
“Our mission is to promote the success of licensed providers in quality early care and education, including the provision of professional development, advocacy, and community engagement.” (NCCA)  

NCCA Vision Statement:
“We believe every child deserves early care and education at the highest standards. We educate and advocate for sustainable policies and practices that are beneficial to young children. We represent quality, licensed providers as critical partners in the delivery of high quality, affordable child care.” (NCCA)

I chose this organization because their values and goals is targeting my passion and understanding of being an early childhood advocator. They believe “that every child deserves early care and education at the highest standards and at an affordable price” (NCCA). Also, “they promote the success of such programs through professional development, advocacy, and community involvement” (NCCA) which is what will apply to my knowledge and practice to have an effective voice while an advocate for children and their families’ rights.

3- National Head start Association (NHSA)

“The National Head Start Association (NHSA) is a nonprofit organization committed to the belief that every child, regardless of circumstances at birth, has the ability to succeed in life. NHSA is the voice for more than 1 million children, 245,000 staff and 1,600 Head Start grantees in the United States. Since 1974, NHSA has worked diligently for policy changes that ensure all at-risk children have access to the Head Start model of support for the whole child, the family and the community” (NHSA).

NHSA Mission and Vision

“ NHSA's vision is to lead—to be the untiring voice that will not be quiet until every vulnerable child is served with the Head Start model of support for the whole child, the family and the community—and to advocate—to work diligently for policy and institutional changes that ensure all vulnerable children and families have what they need to succeed. NHSA's mission is to coalesce, inspire, and support the Head Start field as a leader in early childhood development and education” (NHSA).

I chose this organization because they approach to meeting children and family’s needs through their four major components:
·         “Education: Providing a variety of learning experiences to help children grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally.
·         Health: Providing health services such as immunizations, dental, medical, and mental health, and nutritional services, and early identification of health problems.
·         Parent Involvement: Involving parents in the planning and implementation of activities. Parents serve on policy councils and committees that make administrative decisions; participate in classes and workshops on child development; and volunteer in the program.
·         Social Services: Provide outreach to families to determine what services they need.” (NHSA).

Current Jobs Opportunities
Throughout my search for jobs, I found out that some posts are fit my experiences, knowledge, and education, while others need more experience rather than education. The position is Education Coordinator in San Francisco, CA. So getting this job will be a perfect opportunity to mentor teachers and work as a curriculum specialist and trainer. This opportunity will fit my experience and knowledge while dealing with teachers and children to develop teacher/child interaction and positive guidance and classroom management, which applies to me ten years of experience in the classroom and fits my passion in education. On the other hand, if I will apply for this job, I will need to relocate my home city to move to San Francisco.

    Hello Hanadi,
    Thank you for sharing your blog post. Each Job sounds very interesting to me. The NHSA job sounds great because parents need mentors to give them advice when things it tough for them. NCAA is something I have never heard of the job sounds good.

Global Fund for Children “ We support education from children’s earliest years to secondary school and on through university or vocational training.”    ( The Global Fund for children) The website has the same agendas in the field of education for the youth. Through working together to help end the lack of education, the fund focuses on beating poverty and similar issues through education. It sees education as a means of success, as we do here as well within the course. In order to be successful and be better off than their families, the children are provided with tools for education. Once this education is received, they can get out of the poverty and shambles they are currently in. For us, we can help students here do the absolute same.
